If you were praying for me as I spoke at the Apex Ministry Youth Conference, THANK YOU! It went extremely well, and if you’d like to view my 35 minute talk, click this link and begin at about the 8 minute mark.
The site where I spoke was New Brighton Christian Assembly where about six youth groups had gathered. The event was being livestreamed to four other locations, so I don’t know how many total were in attendance. But the 50-60 gathered in New Brighton were riveted and engaged.
Initially, I was asked to speak for 20 minutes and then field questions for another 25. But given the dynamics of livestreaming, they decided at the last minute to simply have me speak.
The title was “Your Body and God’s Design: Avoiding Identity Theft”. I had anticipated giving more specifics during the Q & A, so my message was more on broad principles.
Be a bit evangelistic. If you like what you see, pass the link on to youth leaders you know. If this gains some traction, I will piece together a study guide to assist youth leaders in discussing the content.
I think you were humorous, which probably went a long way with the kids. I believe it was a good thing that your talk was just skimming the surface because they probably were able to take away from it that it's not about feeling shame for the way they may feel, but more about putting our ultimate identity in eternal things that can't be lost. At least you opened up a dialog on these issues because some church leaders won't even touch on them.
