It will be a long time before I forget the final scene in the courtroom. This young man I’ve come to know and love was handcuffed and walked to the exit near the judge’s bench. Before the door closed, he stole a glance at his family. So much was said in that fleeting look.
Overall, it was a disturbing day for me, not just because of the verdict. And I’ll share more below if you are interested.
But I want to remind you again of the Zoom discussion slated for two different nights: September 7th and 21st, both at 7:00 pm. We will look over the resource manual that I recently self-published called Breaking the Bonds of BDSM: A Manual for Pastors and Counselors. The 58 pages covering the history, dynamics, and prevalence of this deviant practice and ends with prayer keys to help break the chains that bind people.
Once an obscure and illegal practice confined to secret locations, it has now been popularized by Fifty Shades of Grey1 and propelled by the anonymity provided by the internet. The response of people, including Christians, has been, “Well, as long as there is consent, what’s the big deal?”
Over the last seven years, God has led people to me who’ve been caught up in this highly addictive snare. This manual explains thoroughly why I believe it is a big deal and provides some guidance on how people can get free.
Contact me if you want a copy. The manual is free for all who are paid subscribers. All others can receive a hard copy in the mail for $15 ($10 plus postage).
A Zoom link will be sent to all who have indicated they want to be part of the discussion.
Back to my disturbing day . . . . We had hoped for leniency for this young man. Three of us had been called as character witnesses. But for reasons I care not to explain, we were not allowed to speak and the judge was firm: 5-10 years, several fines, and other penalties.
I get it. No matter what trauma we went through as kids, no matter how wounded we are in this life, we are still responsible for our actions. No question. Porn is not a victimless crime. Consequences are warranted if sex trafficking and a host of other evils are ever to be stopped.
But for people who’ve experienced the grace of God, it is hard to swallow, especially knowing, “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”
That same evening, I read several articles that disturbed me. One was an essay by a seventeen year-old girl, and her experience with porn beginning in the fourth grade. The other was about the CEO of Only Fans who is making over $1 million dollars a day for his purveyance of filth.
Having sensed God’s direction to begin training people for this ministry, and knowing his call for me to keep writing, it has added fuel to my determination to see God’s people equipped to plunge into the Sexual Tsunami.
As you no doubt have heard, the book and movie are not exactly a depiction of BDSM, but they certainly opened the door for those exploring kinky alternatives.
Sorry it was such a hard day. I pray the young man will find some healing even in such a terrible place as a prison. My cousin did find some Christian friends there. And another cousin, in for the same thing, became the worship leader at his prison.
