I read a horrifying story from The Free Press, showing the dark side of porn, prostitution, and “gentlemen’s” clubs. It simply is heart wrenching.
Actually, it is heart wrenching if your heart is not already hardened to the reality of sexual debauchery. And to whatever degree God’s people’s hearts are calcified, what will it take to soften them?
What I read today was about someone who began an OnlyFans site to make a little money while in college. If you’ve not heard of it, OnlyFans is a platform where people can post porn videos of themselves and make money each time someone takes a peek.
To rationalize her step into the porn industry, the twenty-three year old thought, “I’m already sleeping around like a slut. Why not make money at it?”
So she began with simple porn videos, stripped down to her panties and covering her bare breasts with her hands. The income surprised her, so she decided to up the ante. Fast forwarding the story a bit, she eventually hired some staff and filmed a one day spree where she had sex with 37 different men. Incredibly, she eventually grossed $2.3 million. But why stop there?
So she advertised online that she would be having sex with 100 men in one day and began taking applications from participants. This then caught the eye of someone wanting to do a documentary about the experience. So she agreed.
By the end of that day, the number had ticked upward to 101. When the last man exited, she finally had a chance to shower, at which time the documentary film crew gained admittance to the bedroom. Upon entering that room and being hit with the odor, the cameraman gagged. The scene and atmosphere were repulsive.
The girl came out of the bathroom looking like a zombie. When asked how she endured such torture, she stated she had to make her soul separate from her body. Those of you with any form of training immediately recognize this as dissociation. In fact, she choked up a bit when she said she couldn’t even remember any of their faces.
Physiologically, this had to have taken a catastrophic toll on her body. No orifice was meant to endure this level of friction. And the psychological damage could be unfolding for years to come. But here’s the kicker: she’s not done! She now wants to attempt 1000.
Horrifying!
She said her parents are supportive and proud of her career in general, but they truly don’t know the whole story.
“At least there was consent . . .”
That’s the mantra of our culture. Two consenting adults can do anything they want. Or in this case, 102 consenting adults. But the author of this secular news story states that the symptoms this lady endures are the same as that for rape victims: “mood swings, dissociation, self-blame, guilt, and sometimes, hypersexuality.”
Further disheartening was the comment section—yes, I went there. Most entries were concerned, saddened, or sometimes shocked. One person wept to think her parents were supposedly supporting her “career.” Another exuded sympathy because she herself experienced something similar by simply being a stripper at a club.
Others, however, certainly thought consent made all the difference. Her body, her choice; and that it was ludicrous to talk of dissociating soul and body—after all, none of us have souls.
Shock Value
River Page, the one reporting this story, began by referencing a 1996 documentary titled Body without Soul. It filmed interviews with sex workers in Prague, most of whom were underaged boys. Those who viewed it were enraged. But Page speculates that far fewer will be incensed over this current video regarding this young lady. We’ve grown cultural callouses. Some of that is due to greater commercialization. Prevalence also deadens us.
Now, in the age of OnlyFans, sex workers are encouraged to think of themselves as part of a community with obligations to a fan base that will always push them further and harder. It’s not just a money trap; it’s a psychological one.
This heart hardening has been incremental, of course. But what level of shock will it take to awaken today’s Church?
Of course, shock intensifies when it happens close to home. Discovering that it is your son or daughter who has gone off the deep end with sexual perversity certainly does grab us by the throat. But becoming aware of our heart’s numbness sometimes requires a set of spiritual defibrillator paddles to revive us. Does this article do that for you?
Note the concern of the journalist:
Not all porn is equally exploitative—and there will always be exhibitionist types who’d just as quickly make it for free. But OnlyFans isn’t a neutral platform; it’s a market designed to sell the body even if it means stealing the soul in the process. And what Lily Phillips just put herself through is not labor. It’s self-abuse.
After the first of the year, I’ll share some thoughts from scripture which illustrate how God’s people have been shocked back into reality regarding sexual sin.
Comments are open to all. I’d love to hear your thoughts. But just a reminder . . .
Be Equipped!
You have the opportunity to be equipped to minister to those who have been caught up in the wreckage of the Sexual Tsunami. I have one opening left for an eight week cohort that will begin in February. Training in some form of inner healing prayer is a prerequisite.
In March, training will be available if you simply want to know how to do inner healing prayer. This ten week course will include online teaching, discussion, and mentoring. There is room for three more. Contact me at ongley01@icloud.com.
It’s difficult, if not impossible, to wrap one’s mind around the horrifying realities described in your post, Mark. Something inside of us is outrightly repulsed by such unimaginable degradation while at the same time feeling a profound sense of pity, mercifulness and compassionate caring. Providentially that is how the crucified God pours out his suffering and restoring love upon us, in us and through us . . . . Lily’s name is written on HIS hand! Can it really be true? It is! Loving Father, Lily’s condition is NOT beyond your reach. Stamp Your Own Image deep on her heart; restore and sustain her, body, mind and soul in preparation for the great marriage feast of Christ, her true heavenly Bridegroom. Amen.
What a very sad story. The dissociation piece makes sense, but it causes untold harm. I feel for everyone impacted by these horrors. Lord, have mercy!
