Yeah, so, this is where we currently differ. As I've been looking into different ages in the progression of Christian thought, I've come to understand that there was no point at which the church could say, "We've arrived! We finally have doctrine down pat." Those who disagree with the current established doctrines will always be the ones who spark fear of heresy. (Insert Galileo's round Earth theory here). I agree that hermeneutics do matter. I've just come to a different conclusion about it. But I would sit with you at a Pirates game if I liked baseball, which I don't. 😁
I still remember the day you described your first visit to PNC. Thought of you years later as I first walked through its concourses. Dang, the Pirates came close under Hurdle . . .
I must ask, Mark, if this is what you have found in your experiences, that most of the people in the Reconciling Ministries arena also believe that Paul was wrong? I'm thinking that this must be the case, for I see no other explanation for the belief that the practice of homosexuality is acceptable according to the Bible.
And I would happily sit with you at a Pirates game, but I'm afraid I would be people-watching. 👁👁
I think many of them are less particular about what exactly the Bible says. I think they change their views based upon observation. They have loved ones who love God and yet struggle with same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. It is difficult for them to grasp how a loving God would allow such feelings if it was a sin to act upon them. Why would God not allow a young gay man to marry, have kids, and be happy?
The reality is that there is brokenness of all sorts. Why would God allow ANYTHING that keeps us from living happy and fulfilled lives. And yet our world has been infected and infected by sin so that all of creation, as Romans 8 states, is groaning until Christ makes all things new.
In light of these seeming contradictions, they begin to assume that the Bible must have it wrong or that it is missing some information that would explain the stark teachings which prohibit sex outside of heterosexual marriage.
As for Pirates games, watching people is what many are doing now. PNC Park is a fun family atmosphere. It would be a LOT more fun if the Pirates would win!

Very fun! (The Pirate references I mean). Someday we will "Raise the Jolly Roger" as a World Series Championship comes to Pittsburgh.
