I think we do have some influence. It's important to be real with them because they already know some things we may not. My youngest had to explain a term to me the other day. I won't say which one, but I had never heard it before. I also write stories for my kids in which the female protagonists face up to challenges of all kinds. They enjoy them and post them online. I try to come off as wise, but not preachy. It's my hope that they can at least understand that they have agency in sexual situations. That's something I didn't understand well when I was their age.
It's fun because I get to interact with young people all over the world. I have a super fan from Zimbabwe and another from Canada. One of my stories has almost 2K reads. I hide bits of wisdom like a mom hides veggies in the mac'n'cheese. I communicate a lot with my fans and answer every comment. The girl from Zimbabwe has sent me several laments that I read and give her empathic feedback on. Journey told me not to say I was old, but I do it all the time. I haven't found that it turns kids off. I write with the voice of an older person. I think that's pretty obvious.
That's great. I've read some of your stories, of course, and they are well crafted. I've always been a skeptic of social media and try to avoid it. But the fact that one of your stories has 2K reads and comments come in from all over the world . . . that is awesome.

How very cool--writing wise stories so well that they post them for their friends. Tremendous.
